IPL

What is IPL?

IPL stands for intense pulse light therapy. It is a non-invasive treatment to reduce sun damage, hyperpigmentation, or dark spots on the skin of the face and neck. As the intense wavelength of the light therapy warms the skin and targets deeper layers of the skin, collagen is produced. As collagen increases, a healthier layer of skin is seen with reduced hyperpigmentation.

Are You A Good Candidate for IPL?

During your visit with Dr. Tamim, he will evaluate you and come up with the right treatment plan that fits your needs. IPL photofacial is ideal for someone with certain skin problems, including sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, brown spots, freckles, age spots, roughness, broken capillaries, or large pores. If you do not want long recovery period or seeking non-surgical solution to your skin problems, then IPL may be right for you.

IPL Technique

Each treatment session lasts about 30 minutes in one of our procedure rooms. Before treatment, we will clean and dry your skin and protect your eyes by wearing goggles. IPL photofacial is administered using a handheld wand that goes over the skin, emitting pulses of light energy. You may experience some discomfort during the IPL treatment session. Most patients find it tolerable and quick.

What to Expect?

You can go back to your daily routine after your IPL treatment session. In the first couple of days, your skin may be red, inflamed, and swollen. Many patients are able to cover the redness with makeup, if desired. And we advise applying ointment on the skin as well as anti-inflammatory medications to expedite the healing process. Typically, about 5 days after the treatment, the blemishes will come from under the skin to the surface and start flaking off. We recommend avoiding picking on your skin after treatment. It is also advised to apply sunscreen when going outside to avoid sun damage. For optimal results, we recommend multiple sessions, about 3 to 6 treatments a month.
