Cheek Augmentation

What is Cheek Augmentation?

As we age, we lose some of the facial volume. And cheek augmentation is an easy way to restore some of the missing soft tissue for more prominent cheekbone and youthful appearance. There are two ways for cheek augmentation. A temporary one: through dermal filler injection or fat grafting. Or a more permanent option, such as cheek implants which are made of silicone.

Are You A Candidate for Cheek Augmentation?

During your visit with Dr. Tamim, he will evaluate you and come up with the right treatment plan for you. Ideal candidates for cheek augmentation would be a person who has a flat or hollow cheek either genetically, through an injury, or after significant weight loss. Or simply someone who wants more contour to their mid-face, which will accentuate the cheekbone and nose.

Surgical Technique

The dermal filler injection is generally done in one session and takes about 30-40 minutes. And the best part is, most patients are able to go back to their daily routine immediately following treatment.

Cheek implants surgery is done under IV sedation/general anesthesia in one of our operating rooms. It is generally done through a small incision inside the mouth, in the upper gums. A pocket is then created above the cheekbones and the implant is secured with 2 titanium screws to ensure its stabilization. Closure is done with resorbable sutures.

What to Expect

Detailed post-operative instructions will be provided to you to ensure proper healing. Most patients see immediate results after cheek augmentation. And in general, recovery time is around 1-2 weeks for cheek implants. During that time, you will experience some swelling, soreness, bruising, and skin tightness. You will have to avoid strenuous activities or any other activities that may strain your facial muscles.  You are expected to see your optimal results in about one month following surgery.

On average, the recovery time for dermal filler injections is 3-5 days. During that time, you may experience swelling, tenderness and soreness. You will be asked to apply cold packs to minimize any discomfort and expedite the healing process. You are expected to see your optimal results in about 1- weeks after procedure. Keep in mind that dermal fillers are only temporary, so you will be scheduled for follow-up appointments in order to maintain the results you like.
